Sign up your company
How to create your company on FSMCore: the signup form, the emailed code, your company's own web address and your first sign-in.
What it is for
Signup creates a new company on FSMCore with its own web address, makes you its first person, and starts a free trial. It takes a few minutes: fill in one form, type the 6-digit code we email you, and you land in your new company.
The signup page is on the main FSMCore site, at the address ending in /signup. It is not on any company's own address.
Who can use it
Anyone setting up a new company, as long as signup is open or they have an invite link (see below).
The person who signs up becomes an admin of the new company. An admin can do everything in the company. If you also own the business, you are asked about that once on your dashboard: see First steps.
People who join a company that already exists do not sign up here. Their admin adds them and sends an invitation: see Inviting people.
When signup is closed
Signup may be closed to the public. The page then shows FSMCore is opening soon with the text "Signup opens to everyone shortly. Until then it is by invitation." and no form.
While it is closed you need an invite link to sign up.
Sign up with an invite link
An invite link is a link to the signup page with an invite code in it. You get it from FSMCore.
- Open the link. The signup form shows, even while signup is closed.
- An invite link works for 7 days and for one company. It is used up when you type the emailed code and your company is created.
- If the link was already used or is too old, the page shows FSMCore is opening soon with "This invite link has been used or has expired. Ask for a new one."
- Open the signup page (or your invite link). The form is headed Start your free trial. The line under it says the trial is 14 days free, with every feature and no card needed.
- Fill in Your name, Email, Password and Confirm password.
- Type your Company name. A web address is suggested from it.
- Choose your Country.
- Check the Web address. Change it if you want. A line under the field says if it is free.
- Tick the box to agree to the Terms of Service and the DPA.
- Press Email me a code. The button shows "Sending the code..." while it works.
- The page Check your email opens. Type the 6-digit code from the email and press Create my company.
- You are signed in at your company's own web address.
Fields
Your name
Your own name, as your people will see it. Required. Up to 255 characters.
Your work email address. Required. Up to 255 characters. The code is sent here, and this is what you sign in with.
- Throwaway email services are not accepted.
- If this email already has an FSMCore account (you already belong to another company), see Already have an FSMCore account.
Password
Required. At least 8 characters, including a letter and a number. Type the same password in Confirm password. The same rule holds wherever a person sets a password in FSMCore.
The hint under the field reads: "At least 8 characters, including a letter and a number. Already use FSMCore with this email? Enter your existing password; it stays the same."
If the form is refused for any reason, both password fields are emptied and you type them again.
Confirm password
The same password a second time. Not needed when your email already has an FSMCore account and you type that account's password.
Company name
The name of your company. Required. Up to 255 characters. You can change company details later in the company settings.
Country
Choose your country from the list. The list starts with the countries FSMCore has a full profile for, then the rest in alphabetical order. The page picks a starting value from your browser's language; if it cannot, it starts on Ireland.
The country sets your currency, tax rates, date order and time zone. You can change them later.
Web address
Your company's own address, for you and your people. You type the first part; the rest (the FSMCore domain) is shown after the field. Everyone in your company signs in at this address.
- Rules: 3 to 30 characters. Lowercase letters, digits and hyphens only. It cannot start or end with a hyphen.
- It is suggested from your company name (words like "Ltd", "Limited", "Inc" and "The" are left out). No number is added: if the suggested address is taken or reserved, the line under the field says so and you change it. Once you edit the field yourself, the suggestion stops.
- Capital letters are turned into lowercase for you.
- As you type, the line under the field shows "(your address) is free." in green, or the reason it cannot be used in red.
- Some addresses are kept for the platform and cannot be chosen. These include words for FSMCore's own pages (for example "www", "app", "admin", "help", "billing", "login", "invoices"), anything with "fsmcore" in it, names that look official, the names of FSMCore's suppliers, and offensive words.
- An address is taken if any company has it, including a company that was deleted, or if another signup is holding it while it waits for its code.
- Your address is held for you for 24 hours while you wait for the code.
Agreement
Tick "I agree to the Terms of Service and the DPA, and have read the Privacy Notice". The three names are links that open in a new tab. The form is refused without the tick. The moment you agreed is recorded for your company.
Links to the legal pages are also at the foot of every signup page: Terms of Service, Privacy Notice, Refund Policy, Data Processing Agreement, Sub-processors and Security. The page a locked company sees has them too.
Once you are signed in, the same six links are at the foot of every page of the office, the crew app and the books, after the word "Legal:". There they open in a new tab.
Enter the code
After Email me a code, the page Check your email shows the email address the code went to, your company name and the web address it will get.
- Open the email with the subject "Your FSMCore code:" followed by the code.
- Type the 6 digits in Code. Spaces and other characters that are not digits are ignored.
- Press Create my company.
Rules for the code:
- It works for 30 minutes.
- You have 5 tries. After a wrong code the page says how many tries are left. After the fifth wrong code the signup is closed and the web address is freed. The page shows Too many wrong codes with a Start again button.
- Nothing is created until the right code is typed. If you did not sign up, ignore the email.
- Not there? Check your spam folder.
Send a new code
Press Send a new code under the form. A new code is emailed and the page says "A new code is on its way to" your address. The old code stops working. The new code works for 30 minutes. You can ask for a new code once a minute.
A new code does not give you new tries. Wrong codes are counted for the whole signup, 5 in all.
How long the code page works
The code page and your web address are kept for 24 hours. After that the signup is gone and the page shows This signup link has expired: "Signups wait 24 hours for their code. Start again; it takes a minute." Press Start again.
If you fill in the form again with the same email, the earlier unfinished signup is let go and the new one counts.
Your first sign-in
When the code is right, FSMCore creates the company and takes you straight to its own web address, signed in, on the admin dashboard. You do not type your password this first time.
- This automatic sign-in link works once, for two minutes. If it has expired you see This sign-in link has expired: "Sign-in links work once, for two minutes. Sign in with your email and password instead." Press Go to sign in.
- Because you are an admin, you are asked to set up two-factor sign-in before you carry on. See Signing in.
- Save your company's web address. That is where you and your people sign in from now on.
Already have an FSMCore account
One person can belong to several companies with the same email and password.
If the email you type already has an FSMCore account:
- Type your existing password in Password. Confirm password is not needed.
- The form never says whether an email has an account. A wrong password is refused only after you enter the code from the email, with "This email already has an FSMCore account, and the password you typed is not its password. Start the signup again and type that account's password." That signup then ends and its web address is free again.
- Your password and your name on the account stay as they are. The new company is added to your account, and you are its admin.
If you only want to sign in to a company you already have, do not sign up again. The foot of the form says "Already have a company on FSMCore?" with the link Sign in to your company. It opens the page that emails you a link to each of your companies. See Find your company.
What happens after
- Your company exists at its own web address, set up for your country: currency, tax rates, date order and time zone.
- You are its admin. The roles owner, admin, supervisor, crew and accountant are ready to give to your people. See Roles.
- A free trial starts. See Trial and plans.
- You get a welcome email with the subject "Welcome to FSMCore," and your company name. It has a button Open followed by your company name, which goes to your company's address, the address written out, and the date your 14-day free trial runs until, with "No card is needed." It also points you to the Get started card and ends with "Your data is always yours: Settings > Export downloads everything."
- Your dashboard shows the Get started card with the first steps. See First steps.
- If you open the code page again later, it shows Already set up: "This signup is confirmed. Sign in at" your company's address, with a Go to sign in button.
