My snags

How to see the snags and damage reports the office gave you in the crew app, add photos from your phone, and mark your own snag fixed with a photo of the fix.

What it is for

My snags is a menu item in the crew app. It lists the snags and damage reports that are assigned to you and still need work or a check: the ones with the status Open or Fixed. The page says: "Snags and damage assigned to you. Tap one, fix it, take an after photo, mark it fixed."

There are two kinds:

  • Snag: something in the company's own work that has to be put right.
  • Damage by others: finished work that another trade damaged afterwards.

Each one has a number per job, for example S-01. Your photos of the fix are printed on the job's completion report beside the "before" photo.

You find the same snags in three places:

The office side is explained in Snags and damage.

Who can use it

Snags are an optional part of FSMCore. Everything on this page shows only while the company has the switch Snags, damage reports and completion report on. An owner or admin sets it: see Switch it on. While it is off, the crew app has no My snags menu item, no My snags section on a job page, no My snags and My snags by status cards, and no Completion photos (finished work) switch when you add photos to a job. Nothing is deleted. It all comes back when the switch goes on again.

Role What they can do in the crew app
Crew See the snags assigned to them, add photos, and mark their own Open snag fixed.
Owner, admin, supervisor The same, and only for snags assigned to them, when they also have the Crew role. Without the Crew role they cannot open the crew app. Their full snag screens are in the office: see Snags and damage.
Accountant No snag screens.

What you cannot do in the crew app:

  • Report a snag or damage. There is no button to add one. Only an owner, admin or supervisor adds a snag or a damage report, from the job in the office. If you spot something on site, tell the office or your supervisor. If you want a photo of it on the job, add it to the job's photos.
  • See a snag that is not assigned to you. It is not in your lists at all.
  • Change a snag. The title, location, notes, due date and the person it is assigned to are set by the office.
  • Close a snag, mark it Not ours, or Reopen it. These are for owners, admins and supervisors.
  • Delete a snag or one of its photos.

The list

Tap My snags in the menu. Each snag is a card. The cards are sorted by due date, earliest first. A snag with no due date comes after the ones that have one. On a tablet there are 2 cards across, on a wide screen 3.

Tap a card to open the snag page.

When you have none, the list says "No snags assigned to you" and "When the office assigns you a snag it shows up here and on This week."

The card

On the card What it shows
Number and title The number, for example S-01, then what is wrong, in bold.
Kind Snag or Damage by others.
Location Where on the job, with a map pin. Left out when the office gave none.
Job The site and the job, in grey.
Due "Due" and the date, in your company's date format. Red when the snag is overdue: from the day after the due date, while it is still Open. On the due date itself it is not red yet. The day is counted on your company's clock, and the office sees the same. Left out when there is no due date.
Status Open (amber) or Fixed (blue).

Filters

There is one filter, Status, with the options Open and Fixed. With no filter set you see both.

The search box looks in the number and the title of the snag, as they are shown on the card. Words can be in any order and small typing mistakes are forgiven.

The card menu

Each card has one ⋮ menu.

Action When it shows
View Always. Opens the snag page, the same as a tap on the card.
Mark fixed The snag is Open.
Add photos Always.

There are no bulk actions.

The snag page

The page title is the number and the title, for example "S-01 Gap at threshold". At the top are two buttons: Mark fixed (only while the snag is Open) and Add photos.

Under them are the details. Only the ones that are filled in are shown:

  • Job: the site and the job.
  • Where: the location.
  • Notes: extra detail from the office.
  • Source: where the snag came from, with the main contractor's own reference when there is one.
  • Reported: the date, and who reported it when that was written down.
  • Assigned to: your name.
  • Due: the due date.
  • On a damage report: Caused by, Discovered, Chargeable (Yes or No) and Repair estimate (the estimate number, or "Draft").
  • Fixed: when it was marked fixed and by whom.
  • Closed and Not ours because: these can show on the office side. A snag with those statuses is no longer in your lists.

Photos

There are two columns, each with a count in its heading:

  • Before: the issue as it was reported. On a damage report this column is called Damage. With no photo it says "No photo yet".
  • After: the fix. With no photo it says "Not fixed yet" while the snag is Open, otherwise "No photo".

Under each photo is the date and time it was added. Tap a photo to open it full size in a new tab.

On the plan

When the office marked the snag on a drawing or photo of the job, the section On the plan shows that image with a red pin on the spot. Without a pin this section is not shown.

History

History lists who did what and when, newest first. For example "Reported", "Status Open → Fixed", "Reassigned", "Archived", "Restored", or "Edited:" and what was changed. With nothing recorded it says "No history recorded." You cannot change the history.

Mark a snag fixed

You can do this only on a snag that is Open and assigned to you. A photo of the fix is needed.

  1. Do the repair.
  2. Open the snag and tap Mark fixed. You also find Mark fixed in the ⋮ menu of the card and of the row on the job page.
  3. The window Mark S-01 fixed opens. It says: "Take a photo of the finished fix - it goes on the completion report beside the "before" photo."
  4. Under Photo of the fix, tap Take photo to open the camera of your phone, or Choose from gallery to pick pictures you already took. You can add several. See Take photo and Choose from gallery.
  5. Wait until each photo says "Ready to save".
  6. Tap Mark fixed.

You see "S-01 marked fixed". The status becomes Fixed, and the time and your name are recorded. Owners, admins and supervisors get a notification that the snag is ready to check.

About the photo:

  • When the snag has no photo of the fix yet, the field says "Required - the fix has to be proven." and you cannot go on without one.
  • When it already has one, for example because you added it with Add photos first, the field says "This issue already has an after photo; add more if you like." and you can tap Mark fixed without a new photo.

A tap outside the window does not close it.

Add photos

Use this to add more photos to a snag assigned to you, at any time while it is in your list, Open or Fixed.

  1. Open the snag and tap Add photos, or choose Add photos in the ⋮ menu.
  2. The window Add photos to S-01 opens.
  3. Under These photos show, pick The issue as reported (a "before" photo) or The fix (an "after" photo). It starts on The fix. A choice is required.
  4. Under Photos, tap Take photo or Choose from gallery. At least one photo is required.
  5. When the photos are ready, tap the save button. It names the snag, Save photos to S-01, and counts the photos once they are ready, for example "Save 2 photos to S-01".

You see "1 photo added" or "2 photos added".

Photos can only be added here. There is no way to remove a photo of a snag in the crew app, so check that you picked the right snag and the right choice under These photos show. If a wrong photo went on, tell the office.

Adding photos does not change the status. To finish the snag, use Mark a snag fixed.

Take photo and Choose from gallery

Every photo field has two buttons:

  • Take photo opens the camera of your phone. Take the picture and it is added. Tap again for another one.
  • Choose from gallery lets you pick one or several pictures that are already on the phone.

Good to know:

  • Photos only: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP and HEIC. No video.
  • One file can be up to 512 MB.
  • A photo is first uploaded, then saved. When the upload is done the photo says "Ready to save" and the line "Photo ready. Tap the button below to save it." appears. Nothing is on the snag until you tap the button at the bottom of the window.
  • If you close the window, tap Cancel or press the back button of the phone with photos not yet saved, you are asked "Discard 1 unsaved photo?" first. Keep editing takes you back. Discard drops the photos.

My snags on a job page

Open a job under My Jobs. The section My snags lists the Open and Fixed snags of that job that are assigned to you, in number order.

Column What it shows
# The number, for example S-01.
Issue What is wrong, with the location under it.
Due The due date, or "-" when there is none.
Status Open or Fixed.

Tap a row to open the snag page. The ⋮ menu of a row has Open, Mark fixed (only on an Open snag) and Add photos. They work the same as on the snag page.

With none it says "No snags assigned to you on this job" and "Snags the office assigns you appear here and on This week."

The My snags card on This week

Your home screen, This week, has a My snags card: "Assigned to you and not yet closed. Tap one to see the photos, fix it, and mark it fixed."

  • Open snags come first, then by due date, earliest first. A snag with no due date comes after the ones that have one. The card shows up to 20.
  • Each line has the number and title, the location and the job, and the due date. From the day after the due date, an Open snag is red and says "overdue". On the due date itself it is not overdue yet.
  • An Open snag shows its kind, Snag or Damage by others. A Fixed one shows "Fixed - awaiting check".
  • Tap a line to open the snag page.
  • With none it says "No snags assigned to you."

There is also a My snags by status card, a small chart of all the snags assigned to you per status, Closed and Not ours included. It is not shown until you add it to your home screen.

What happens after

  • A snag you marked fixed stays in your lists as Fixed until someone in the office deals with it.
  • An owner, admin or supervisor checks the fix and closes the snag. A Closed snag leaves your lists. So does one marked Not ours.
  • If the fix was not good enough, the office reopens the snag. It is Open again and Mark fixed is back. The photos stay. See The notifications you get.
  • If the office assigns the snag to someone else, it leaves your lists.
  • Your photos of the fix are printed on the job's completion report. They are kept as evidence.

The statuses and what the office does with them are explained in Statuses.

The notifications you get

Snags send notifications in the app only (the bell). No email is sent. You are never notified about something you did yourself. An archived person gets neither of them.

Notification When What it says
Snag assigned to you The office assigns a snag to you, or moves one to you. The number and title, and the site or job. The button Open My snags opens your list.
Snag reopened: S-01 (title) A snag that you marked fixed is reopened. "On (site or job). The fix needs another look." The button Open My snags opens your list.

The reopened notification goes to the person who marked the snag fixed.

Common mistakes

Message Why, and what to do
"Add a photo of the fix before marking this fixed." A snag cannot be marked fixed without at least one photo of the fix. Add the photo, then tap Mark fixed.
"You can only update issues assigned to you." The snag is not assigned to you, for example because the office just moved it to someone else. Ask the office to assign it to you.
"Crew can only mark an assigned issue as fixed." The only change crew can make to a snag is Open to Fixed. Anything else is done by the office.
"Only the office or a supervisor can report an issue." Crew cannot add a snag or a damage report. Tell the office or your supervisor.
"Only the office or a supervisor can close an issue." Closing, marking as not ours and reopening are for owners, admins and supervisors. The same message ends in "mark an issue as not ours." or "reopen an issue." for those two. These actions are not in the crew app.

Other things to know:

  • My snags is missing from the menu: the company has snags switched off. Ask an owner or admin.
  • A snag you expected is not in the list: it is not assigned to you, or it is already Closed or Not ours. Ask the office.
  • Mark fixed is missing: the snag is already Fixed. It is waiting for the office to check it.
  • You tapped Add photos, added a photo of the fix, and the snag is still Open: adding photos does not change the status. Tap Mark fixed. The photo you added counts, so no new one is needed.
  • Your photo is not on the snag: it was uploaded but not saved. Wait for "Ready to save", then tap the button at the bottom of the window.
