Put the crew app on the home screen

How to add the crew app to the home screen of an iPhone or an Android phone, so it opens like an app, and what it does when there is no signal.

What you get

The crew app can sit on your phone's home screen like any other app. There is nothing to download from an app store: you add it from the phone's browser, once.

  • Tap the icon and the crew app of your company opens full screen, without the browser's address bar.
  • The icon opens your own company's crew app. If you work for two companies on FSMCore, add the crew app of each one from its own web address: you get two icons.
  • The name under the icon is your company's name when it is short (12 letters or fewer), otherwise FSMCore.
  • Everything you see is the same crew app as in the browser, with the same sign-in.

Only the crew app can be added to the home screen. The office screens and the books open in the browser as before.

On an iPhone

Use Safari. Other browsers on an iPhone may not offer it.

  1. Open Safari and go to your company's web address followed by /app, for example yourcompany.fsmcore.com/app.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up). On newer versions of iOS it sits behind the ⋯ button at the bottom of the screen: tap ⋯, then Share.
  3. Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. If you see Open as Web App, leave it switched on.
  5. Tap Add at the top right.

The FSMCore icon now sits on your home screen.

On an Android phone

Use Chrome.

  1. Open Chrome and go to your company's web address followed by /app, for example yourcompany.fsmcore.com/app.
  2. Chrome may show a bar or a button that says Install app or Install. Tap it, then tap Install.
  3. If nothing shows, tap the ⋮ menu at the top right, then Add to home screen (on some phones it reads Install app), then Install.

The FSMCore icon now sits on your home screen and in your list of apps.

Signing in

The first time you open the icon, you sign in like in the browser.

  • Tick Remember me when you sign in and you stay signed in on that phone until you sign out.
  • Without Remember me, you are signed out after 2 hours without using the app.
  • On an iPhone, the app on the home screen is signed in on its own, apart from Safari: signing in or out in Safari does not change it.
  • A password reset link from an email opens in the phone's browser, not in the app. Set your new password there, then open the app and sign in with it.

Note: Sign out from the account menu (top right) when you hand your phone to someone else.

Some things open outside the crew app's own screens:

  • PDFs (invoices, hours sheets) and Help open in a new browser window over the app, or in the phone's browser. Close it, or go back to the app, to carry on where you were.
  • Switch to Office or Switch to Books in the account menu opens that area in the app window. On Android a small bar with a close button shows at the top: tap it to come back. Anywhere, Switch to Crew app in the account menu brings you back too.

No signal

The crew app needs signal to open a page and to save.

When you tap something and there is no signal, you see a page that says No connection. This page needs signal to open. with a Try again button. Tap it when you are back online.

Hours save as you type and photos when you press Save, but only with signal. Anything you entered without signal was not saved: enter it again when you are back online.

The app keeps no copy of your company's work for use without signal: no jobs, hours or invoices. The only page it keeps for that is the "No connection" page. Like any browser, the phone may keep pictures it has already shown you for a while, the same as when you use the crew app in the browser.

Remove it

Remove the icon like any other app: press and hold it, then choose to remove it. Nothing in FSMCore changes.
